DAY 40 (11/27/2014)

Pray without ceasing. - 1 Thessalonians 5:17

PR:  Thank God today for all of those who quietly serve in our congregations behind the scenes and under the radar.

PR:  Father, as we end these forty days of prayer, we thank You for the commitment of all those who have participated. We thank You for all of our petitions You have answered in the past. We thank You for inviting us to turn our cares into prayers and to bring them to You. We praise You for providing this means of communication and allowing us to share our concerns with You.

SG:  Father, help us to maintain the discipline of our devotion to you;  to continue to come before your throne daily; to remain dependent on You day by day for our every need. Help us, Father, to grow spiritually as a result of these forty days, and to deepen our faith and love for You.

DAY 39 (11/26/2014)

Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know your labor in the Lord is not in vain. - 1 Corinthians 15:58

IN: Father, we commit the future of our young people into your hands for safekeeping.  We especially pray that you would be raising up, even now, a future Christian mate for them, a partner with whom they may one day establish a Christian home. We pray that they might be encouraged to purity by the assurance that You are working to honor the desires of their heart.

MN: Even though it is November, plans are already being made for the 2015 sessions of Camp Kurios.  Be with those who serve on the board as well as those who direct the various sessions.  Pray that God will give them wisdom as they select curriculum and staff for the upcoming year.  Pray for the campers who will participate in the sessions.  May they grow in their walk with Him as a result of their time at camp.

CF: Father, we know that we often make poor use of our time, and when we do we squander our days in worldly and trivial pursuits. Help us to be more disciplined, that we might be more effective in our discipleship. Help us to make the most of every opportunity, that we might make our lives count for you. And help us to order our priorities so that we seek You, and Your kingdom, above all else.

DAY 38 (11/25/2014)

Be very careful how you live- not as unwise, but as wise...because the days are evil.  -Ephesians 5:15-16

SG:  Father, give us eyes to see those who are struggling among us.   For those who find themselves on the path, or in rocky or thorny soil.  Help us as a body of believers to reach out to those who are struggling and to disciple and mentor those who are young in the faith.  Forgive us when we become too consumed with our own lives to see those struggling around us.

MN:  Be with our service tonight as we come together for a time of  prayer, scripture, and song.  May we be blessed and encouraged by our time together.  Pray for those who are already on the road for the holiday season.  Pray for their safe return.

IN:  We ask, Lord, for more caution and more courage as we live our lives in this wicked world.  Help us to be more sensitive to the leading of your Spirit and more aware of the many influences that would harden our hearts and lead us away from You.  We especially ask today that you give us more discernment in our choice of entertainment.

PR:  Praise God today for the work of our missionaries.  Pray for each, by name, and ask God to bless their work.

DAY 37 (11/24/2014)

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
- Colossians 4:5

MN:  Pray today for our outreach efforts this week; for all those who invite others to worship, to a Disciple Group, or to a personal Bible study;  for the unsaved who are now considering the claims of Christ.

SG:  We ask God today to help us better control our tongues.  Help us to resist the temptations of gossip, of grumbling, and of ugly words. Make us more sensitive to the needs of others, that we might speak words which build up, and not tear down.  Give us more patience and discretion, that we might be quick to hear and slow to speak.

SG:  Father, make us more sensitive to the needs of others, and especially of those who are lonely, lost, and left out in society. We know Christ always showed His love and compassion to those who were overlooked- help us to be more like Jesus in our attitudes towards the disadvantaged, the poor, and the powerless.

DAY 36 (11/23/14)

God gave some to be...evangelists, pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.  -Ephesians 4:11-12

IN:  Today we pray that we will worship in spirit and in truth and that God will be glorified in all that we do.

MN:  As we collect the gifts for the Children's Home in Paragould this morning pray for the children who will receive them.  With various backgrounds and unknown baggage these children are special to a loving God.  Also say a prayer of thanks to all who took a name off of the tree.  They will make a kid’s Christmas a little brighter.  Keep those who work with the Children’s Home and their families in your prayers as they minister to these children throughout the year.

PR:  Today we thank God for our Deacons.  Lift them up in prayer today by name.  They are: Gary Anzalone, Jack Baumgardner, Rick Brown, David Coleman, Greg Downum, Keith Gunter, Brandon Harrell, Wayne Harrell, Herman Hill, Greg Humphreys, Alan Meadows, Clint Meadows, Eric Moree, Rob Newsom, Jack Reynolds, Leroy Shelton, Mark Toombs, Joe Turbeville, John David Turbeville, and Lewis Whatley.

Thoughts on Prayer

"Be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.  Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel"  - The Apostle Paul (Ephesians 6:18-19)

“The spectacle of a nation praying is more awe-inspiring than the explosion of the atom bomb.  The force of prayer is greater than any possible combination of man-made or man-controlled powers, because prayer is man’s greatest means of tapping the infinite resources of God.  Invoking by prayer the mercy and might of God is our most efficacious means of guaranteeing peace and security for the harassed and helpless peoples of the earth.” -J. Edgar Hoover

“Our prayers are answered not when we are given what we ask but when we are challenged to be what we can be.” -Morris Alder

“After a week in the world, worshipers may need our prayers as much as our preaching.”  -Gordon MacDonald

“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” -James (James 5:16)

DAY 35 (11/22/2014)

"Is not my Word like fire", declares the Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?"  — Jeremiah 23:29

PR:   We praise God today for His Word, which convicts our soul and directs our path.  We pray that we will be open to God as He speaks to us through His Word as we assemble tomorrow.

MN:   We ask the Lord to bless the ministries of Kent, Gary, and Jason with this congregation.  We thank God that they use their gifts to share the gospel, and pray they will have a long and effective ministry.

MN:   Pray for our Disciple Groups as they meet tomorrow for prayer, that they might be a blessing not only to our church family but to those who have not yet responded to the gospel of God's grace.

DAY 34 (11/21/2014)

The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. — Romans 8:6

PR:   We praise God today for our own salvation;   for the assurance that the blood of Jesus cleanses us of all sins.

CF:   Search us, O God;  examine our hearts and innermost thoughts; convict us of wrong and cleanse us of secret sins, that we might love and serve You more fully.

MN:   Ask God's blessings on those who are struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs, gambling, or pornography.   We pray that they might be willing to accept help; that they might resist temptation and seek the power of God's Holy Spirit; and that they might experience victory over the destructive power of these sins.

DAY 33 (11/20/2014)

The righteous will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green. — Psalm 92:14

SG:   Father, make us more generous, and less grudging, when we offer our gifts to you.  Help us to be cheerful givers so that we might be doubly blessed with continued prosperity AND spiritual riches.  Help us to experience the joy in sharing our blessings with others.

IN:  Ask God's blessings today on our older members, that they might continue to be examples to us in faith, hope, and love. We pray that the Lord will bless them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

MN:   Pray for our Prime-Timers Ministry, and for their leaders;  for all of the Ministry Teams that are active in service to God.  Ask the Lord to bless their work.

Day 32 (11/19/2014)

Do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of  your Father speaking through you. — Matthew 10:19-20

PR:   We praise God today for the Cross, which convicts us of the sinfulness of sin while assuring us of  God's love for us.
SG:   We ask for courage to speak up for Biblical truth in a society that is becoming increasingly hostile      toward Christian values, and for the wisdom to know what to say.

MN:  Thank God today for Magen Olive who makes sure these guides are available in various formats so that everyone may benefit from them.  Also thank God today for Jamie Gunter, Cathy Meadows, and David Wilhelm as they work with and maintain our church website.

Day 31 (11/18/2014)

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. — Romans 12:12

PR:   We thank God today for our church family — our spiritual brothers and sisters we worship and fellowship with each week.

IN:   We pray for our sister congregations here in El Dorado — for the Plum Street, Souls Chapel, Union Heights, East Faulkner, and Hillsboro congregations— that we might always remember to reach out with God's love to our neighbors and our community.

SG:   We ask God to bless our prayer life;  to make us more disciplined in our prayer life; to help us to be more dependent on God's power, and more aware of His presence in our life today.

Pray for....all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.   — 1 Timothy 2:2

IN:   We pray today for the leaders of our nation; as changes in leadership on a national level are on the horizon may you guide those who have been newly elected to seek Your will as they prepare to serve and pass legislation.

MN: Pray for our youth and family ministry (and for the Baker family as they work with the youth and their families).  We especially pray that our young people will have the strength, the wisdom, and the desire to withstand the temptation they face each day and that they will have the proper examples to follow in us.

IN:   Ask God to bless the firefighters here in El Dorado who protect our lives and property.

Day 29 (11/16/2014)

Ask the Lord of harvest to send out workers into his harvest field. — Matthew 9:37

PR:   Father, we thank You for Your goodness to us; for our homes, our family, our jobs, our freedom, and most of all, our salvation. God, You have given us so much, that we ask for only one thing more: grant us a grateful heart, that we might always give You praise.
MN: Today, we pray for our missionaries worldwide:  that they will find more open doors and receptive hearts and that we (in our zeal to evangelize the world) likewise see the needs in our own backyard.
CF:   Father, we confess that we often fail to speak up when we have opportunities to share our faith. Give us boldness to speak for Christ; compassion for the lost; and wisdom to say what we should.

PR: We thank our God for always raising up the leaders we need here at College Avenue and ask that He will continue to work in the lives and hearts of our people to prepare our future leaders as well.

IN: We pray, Father, for our Children's Ministries that will meet tomorrow: for the Bible Classes at 9 a.m. and the Backyard Bible Club, and for all those dedicated workers who staff them.

MN: We thank God for the guests who visit our worship services each week, and pray that we might be missionaries in our congregation by extending a genuine “Welcome” to them.

Day 27 (11/14/2014)

Do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.    - Ephesians 5:17-18

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR:  We praise God for the freedoms we enjoy here in America, and ask Him to bless our nation in a difficult time. We pray especially for the safety of the men and women in our armed forces who are now in harm's way overseas.

SG:  As the weekend approaches we know that many here in Union County will be seeking fulfillment in a bottle or at a bar. We pray that God will redirect their hearts to find true satisfaction in being filled with His Spirit. Until He does, we pray that the police will be successful in keeping the intoxicated off the streets.

MN:  Ask God’s blessing on the father-son campout tonight and the baking for a cause lock-in.  May God use these events to strengthen the bonds within families and between the youth and the Prime-Timers ministry.

Day 26 (11/13/2014)

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. -Psalm 51:12

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

SG:  Restore to us the joy of Your salvation, that we might once again learn to serve You with gladness; remind us, God, of the wonder we felt when we first realized that Jesus died for us, taking OUR place on that cross; help us to recall the terror of realizing our lostness, that we might once again feel the relief of being saved; make our old, calloused hearts tender once again, that we might give You the joyful praise You deserve.

IN: We pray today for those Christians who were once faithful, but who have now wandered away from the Lord and no longer are practicing their faith. We pray that God will touch their hearts, and that we might have the opportunity to speak a word of encouragement to them, that they might be restored to God's grace.

MN. We are thankful for the work of Gail Albritton and Joan Holmes in our church office, and ask God to bless them as they support our ministries and represent our congregation to the many folks from the community who call or visit our offices.  We are also thankful for Kenneth Langston as he keeps our facilities spotless and in good repair and is always available to lend a helping hand.

Day 25 (11/12/2014)

I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. -1 Samuel 2:27

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

IN:  We pray for parents who are raising their children in a society saturated with sensuality and violence. Bless our homes, Father, that they might be places of love and holiness, and help us to create a counter-culture based on Christian values for our young people. Bless the ministries of this church that they might strengthen,  support, and complement the work of godly parents.

IN: We pray today for the poor in our community, and especially for those children who have been abandoned by one or more of their parents. We ask that we be led in ways to be a blessing to them.

CF:  We confess that we sometimes judge people by their external appearance, rather than their hearts. Help us, God, to see others as You see them.

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

IN:  We pray today for the teachers in all of the schools in Union County; grant them wisdom and patience as they instruct their students and bless their work as they develop the minds and lives of young people.

MN:  We thank you today for the work of  the Boys and Girls Club here in El Dorado.  We are grateful for the good that is being done in this community by this organization:  not only through the sports programs but also through their after school efforts providing meals and tutoring.

SG: Pray today for the effectiveness of our own witness: that we might never forget that we are Christ's ambassadors on this earth and that someone is always watching.  May they always see Christ living in us.

Day 23 (11/10/2014)

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. -Psalm 148:1

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR: We praise God today for His awesome creation: for giving us so many glimpses of His glory in the beauty of nature around us;  for making a fruitful world which abundantly provides for our every need; and for creating us, even though He knew, in advance, how rebellious and ungrateful we can be.

IN: We pray today for the judges and all those who maintain our judicial system.  Ask God to grant them wisdom that they might establish fairness, justice, and security in our land.

SG: We ask, Lord, for more faith to rely on You. Help us to seek Your guidance first, rather than trying to rely on our own strength and wisdom and only appealing to You after we have messed up.  Give us more faith, Father, that we might walk with You in trust and confidence each day, instead of running to You only in a time of crisis.

Day 22 (11/9/2014)

Pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you   - John 17:20-21

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

IN:  We pray today for the church of Jesus Christ. As followers of Jesus assemble around the world in His name today, we know that the Lord is grieved by personal disputes and denominational doctrines that divide believers. We pray that we might be more successful in our goal of Loving God, Loving Others, and Sharing the Good News, and might be able to communicate that goal more clearly. We pray that we might more perfectly strive to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; that we might exhibit true love for every sincere believer, while also seeking common ground for all believers on the Word of God, and it only; and that we might model in our own lives and in our mutual relationships that unity for which Jesus prayed.

PR:  Father, we thank You that we have things to be joyful about.  As Kent’s speaks today on the final component of our vision statement, may we always “Be Joyful” despite our fluctuating circumstances.  Forgive us when we get bogged down by comparisons and attitudes of entitlement and discontentment.

IN:  Ask God’s blessing on our elders and ministers as they meet today.  May God continue to strengthen them and grant them wisdom, vision, and discernment.

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

SG:  We ask for wisdom, a caring spirit, and strength that we might truly put into practice the teachings of Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount.

MN: Today we pray for the good work that is being done in the inner city of Mobile.  May God continue to use Chuck & Jane Griffis (and their ministry team) to share the good news in South Alabama.

IN:  Ask the Lord to bless the work of our Bible teachers as they prepare their lessons for tomorrow.  Give them the right words to say, that they might effectively communicate the riches of God's Word.

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

SG:  Today as we are half-way through our "40 Days of Prayer" we remember the warning of Jesus to His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. Give us, God, the strength and resolve to fulfill our commitment to You in this prayer campaign.

MN: We ask that you use us to build up Your church at College Avenue; that each of us will have the desire to grow, both spiritually and numerically;  bless our outreach efforts and the recipients of these efforts; especially bless our personal Bible studies.

IN: As the weekend begins we know many young people and parents all over the state and country will be on the highways, traveling to football games and other activities. We ask for their safety as they travel.

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR:  We thank God today for the many that He has healed, both physically and spiritually.  We pray His blessings on those who are sick and ailing.

SG:  We ask that we will be less self-centered, and more aware of the needs of others, and of our own need for God. We especially ask that as we go through these "40 Days of Prayer" might grow in our faith and our relationship with our Lord.

Day 18 (11/5/2014)

This is how we know that He lives in us:  We know it by the Spirit He gave us - 1 John 3:24

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR:  We praise You today, Father, for your indwelling Spirit of holiness. We thank You for not leaving us  alone in this world, but for giving us the comfort and strength of Your presence in our lives. We are in awe of Your perfect nature and give You thanks for sharing that nature with us through the Holy Spirit.

CF: We recognize that we often quench the power of Your Spirit in our lives by seeking to please our flesh rather than pleasing Your Spirit. Help us, Father, by the power of Christ Jesus to crucify the passions of the flesh and to live by Your Spirit.

IN:  In a world of immorality we pray today for the faithfulness of husbands and wives. We ask, Father, that you would preserve the marriages of our church family from the attacks of Satan; that the hearts of mates might be turned to each other, and away from distractions. Help those who are married remember their promises to each other and to You when they are tempted.

MN:  Ask God to give wisdom to Jack Webb & Randy Hendricks as they direct the Divorce Recovery Group this evening.  Ask God to be with those who are going through a divorce and are adjusting to life in the aftermath.

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. -II Chronicles 7:14

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR:  We thank you today for the incredible privilege of living in this land of liberty, where we may worship freely. We pray that we might use our freedom to be salt and light in our nation and our world.

IN:  Today we pray for our nation as we head to the polls.  May we elect those who hold to the values found in scripture.  Pray for those in leadership positions that they will seek the Will of God in their daily lives and in the causes they champion.

MN:  We ask your blessings today on the "Band of Brothers" class which will meet tomorrow night.  Bless those men who are participating, so that they in turn may be a blessing to their families, friends, and co-workers.

Day 16 (11/3/2014)

Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering - Hebrews 13:3

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR:  We thank you, Father, for our daily bread; for the abundant food on our tables that we so often take for granted; for the variety of healthy and wholesome food that is ours to enjoy. We praise you for the abundance we experience in this most blessed of nations.

IN: Father, we pray today for those in prison.  Keep them safe and be with their families as they are separated from them.  Be with the parents who are filling two roles in the absence of their spouse.

IN:   We realize that many of our fellow-believers around the world are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus. We pray especially for those Christians in the Middle East who live in Muslim countries. Keep them safe and strengthen their faith.

Day 15 (11/2/2014)

“We pray with our eyes on God, not on our difficulties.” -Oswald Chambers

Today we are entering the third week of our 40 days of prayer leading up to Thanksgiving Day.  This year's theme is "Seeking Wisdom from Above."

Today's meditation: I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  -Philippians 1:4-6

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

Today's Prayer

Dear Father, I come before You recognizing Your majesty and my need.  You are the glorious God of all creation, the Father of all peoples, and the Sovereign LORD of all nations.  I come on my knees, dear Father, offering myself to You.  Please use me in ways that bring You glory and ensure that I am drawn ever closer to You in character and compassion. Please heal me of my infirmities—both the physical ones and the spiritual ones.  Bring Yourself glory through my life.
In Jesus’ name I pray,   Amen.
-Source unknown

IN:   Ask God to bless the outreach of our Disciple Groups;  lead us to someone today who is seeking the Lord;  give us the wisdom and courage to invite them to share in the fellowship of our group.

MN:  Ask God's blessings today on Gary & Peggy Schloemer as  they continue to acclimate to our church family.  Ask for God to  bless the efforts of Gary as he works with the areas of evangelism, education, equipping members for ministry, and writes our Disciple Group curriculum.

IN: Pray today for each of our shut-ins by name (they are listed in our worship bulletin).

Day 14 (11/1/2014)

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other that you may be healed. - James 5:16

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Need)

PR:  Thank you for your idea of a church family. When our own family is experiencing problems, it is reassuring to know we have a spiritual family working towards the same goals of holiness and heaven.

CF: We confess that we are often too self-centered to notice or meet the needs of others; help us to become more sensitive and more caring towards our brothers and sisters.

MN: Ask God to bless the preparations of our Bible class teachers for their classes tomorrow.  May they speak truth and may we strengthen one another through our discussions.

Day 11 (10/29/2014)

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. - Ephesians 4:30-31

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

IN: We pray today for the believers in south Arkansas and northern Louisiana; we ask that God strengthen them so that their ministries may be a blessing to our communities.

IN: Ask God today to especially bless our young people who are away at college, that they might remain faithful;  that they might make wise decisions regarding their future;  that they might find Christian mates;  that they will make good friends.

SG: We ask that the Holy Spirit will especially minister to those Christians among us whose hearts are plagued with bitterness;  that He will convict and correct their attitudes; that they may have a forgiving spirit and be healed of the spiritual destruction caused by their anger.

Day 10 (10/28/2014)

We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. - 1 Thessalonians 1:3

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

IN:  Ask God’s blessings today on the work of Benny & Donna Baker with Mision Para Cristo and all of those who work with them in this worthwhile ministry.   May God keep them safe and bless their efforts as they minister to the people of Jinotega and the surrounding area.

MN: Thank God today for the diligent work of our shepherds.  Ask Him to give them wisdom for the important decisions they face.  Pray for both them and their wives by name.  Pray for:  Bret & Catherine Garrett, David & Barbara Hogg, Mike & Cathy Meadows, David & Debbie Ponder, Bruce & Cherie Simpson, Jim & Ginger Welch, and Allen & Gay White.

CF:  We confess that we often get so busy that we don’t have sufficient time for church, for service, and for spiritual growth. Help us, Father, to examine our priorities and spend our life on things that last.

Day 9 (10/27/2014)

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message  - Colossians 4:2-3

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

PR: We praise you, O God, for your greatness; that we can call you “Father”; for the many blessings You have given us, both spiritual and physical; for the opportunities You have given us to serve You; for Jesus, and the great sacrifice made on the cross; for our family here at College Avenue; and for Your grace.

MN: Ask God to open the door to us to develop new ministries and opportunities to reach the lost;  ask for guidance that we might discern those opportunities when they come our way. Pray for our outreach efforts, and ask God to give us wisdom that we might speak up for Christ whenever we have the opportunity.   Pray for the follow up that will take place as a result of our work at Neel Park yesterday with Trunk or Treat.  May our presence continue to be felt in that neighborhood.

CF: We confess our sins, both of commission and of omission; our thoughts are not always what You want them to be; we are often not kind and patient with others when we should be; we have let material things have priorities over spiritual things. We ask that You forgive us, cleanse us, strengthen us, and renew us.

Day 8 (10/26/2014)

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness -  1 Timothy 2:1-2

Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

IN: We pray today for our nation. Ask God to bless America with peace, security, and stability.  Pray that our leaders might have wisdom as they make difficult decisions. Ask the Father to bless those who are in the Armed Forces who are seeking to protect us.

IN: We especially pray for revival in our nation, that Americans might be shaken out of their spiritual complacency and might truly trust in God; that our culture might turn from its preoccupation with unholy things towards godliness.

SG: We ask for wisdom and strength to be salt and light in our world.

MORNING PRAYER

Eternal Father of my soul, let my first thought today be of You, let my first impulse be to worship You, let my first speech be Your name, let my first action be to kneel before You in prayer.

   For Your perfect wisdom and perfect goodness;
   for the love with which You love mankind;
   for the love with which You love me;
   for the great and mysterious opportunity of my  life;
   for the indwelling of Your Spirit in my life;
I praise you and worship You, O Lord.

Yet let me not, when this morning prayer is said, think my worship ended and spend the day in forgetfulness of You. Rather from these moments of quietness let light go forth, and joy, and power, that will remain with me through all the hours of the day.

Day 7 (10/25/2014)

Search me, O God, and know my heart;  test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. -Psalm 139:23-24

Abbreviations Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

CF: Search our hearts, O God, and know our anxious thoughts; deliver us from worry and give us more faith.

IN:  We pray today specifically for the nurses at the Medical Center and for the attendants in the nursing homes here in El Dorado and Union County. Bless the sometimes difficult work they do in ministering to the ill and infirm. Guide their hands that they might bring comfort and healing to those who are hurting.

MN: We pray today for our Fall Bible classes. Ask God's blessings on all the teachers as they prepare themselves to share the riches of God's Word with their classes tomorrow. We pray especially that our children's classes will continue to grow, and that even more young people will be blessed by this ministry.

Abbreviations Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

Day 5 (10/23/2014)

If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. - James 3:15

Abbreviations Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

IN:  Our shepherds ask that we pray today for the families of our congregation, and especially those families that are experiencing difficulties. Ask God to bless troubled marriages and bring healing and peace and reconciliation where there is conflict. Ask God to bless parents as they seek to raise their children, that they might exercise a healthy authority balanced by love. Pray especially today for those children who are growing up in homes that are broken by discord or divorce.

PR:  Today, we praise God for the gift of prayer; for the blessing of being able to talk to our Father at any time and be confident that He hears, He cares, and  He is willing and able to answer our petitions. We especially give thanks for the mediation of Jesus, our High Priest, who speaks to the Father on our behalf when we approach God's throne;  and for the Holy Spirit, who intercedes for us when we do not even know what we ought to pray for.

MN:  Today we are thankful for all of those who work with our local Hospice program.  We thank them for all that they do to minister to patients and family alike as loved ones transition from this life to the next.

Day 4 (10/22/2014)

Who is wise and understanding among you?  Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom - James 3:13

Abbreviations Key: PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

PR:  We thank God today for His great compassion; for the many ways He has lavished His love on us; for every good and perfect gift He has bestowed;  for our homes, our health, and all that brings us happiness.

MN: Pray for the classes tonight.:  our classes for kids of all ages, Jason’s On-Site class with the youth group, our Grief Recovery Class, our Divorce Recovery Class, Jane’s Ladies class, Kent’s men’s class discussing how to be a godly man in an ungodly world, Gary’s class on Acts, and those who participate in the Sewing for the Master ministry.  May God’s word be taught and may we draw closer to Him as we draw closer to one another.
SG: Father, we confess that we are often inattentive to the leading of your Spirit in our lives;  that we can be blind to needs of even those close to us, and often grumble about the service that we do render in Your name.  Help us to be greater servants; to be cheerful givers; to be willing workers in Your kingdom.  Prevent us from falling in love with the pleasures and possessions of the world and neglecting our own spiritual growth or the opportunity to serve others.
