DAY 16: Mon, 10/31

"I urge.....that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness"  -  1 Timothy 2:1-2

PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

IN:  Father, our nation is in deep distress.  We ask that you bless our leaders with a spirit of wisdom and courage, that they might make right decisions, rise above partisanship, and seek the good of all the people.

IN:   Lord, we ask that today you be with our teenagers as they go through a challenging time of life, and as many of their friends struggle with sinful activities. May our youth withstand temptations and encourage each other to be strong in the Lord. May they be good examples for their friends; may they understand the joy of following your will; may they avoid the pain that comes from surrendering to Satan.

MN:   Father, we thank you for all those who are participating in our "Sewing for the Master" ministry.  Help them reach their goal of 1000 dresses.  May the little girls who receive these dresses experience your love, and come to a deeper faith in you, through this gift.

DAY 5 (THUR., 10/20)

MEDITATION:  "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain" - Psalm 127:1;   "What God has joined together, let man not separate" - Matthew 19:6;    "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord" - Joshua 24:15

PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

MN:  Pray for the work of Jason & Julie Baker as they seek to strengthen our families and to lead young people to the Lord.  Bless our Youth Council as it coordinates our ministries.   Father, we especially ask that you strengthen and guide the parents of our young people as they seek to raise their children in an increasingly ungodly culture.

DAY 4 (WED., 10/19)

MEDITATION:   "I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.  Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees;  then I will keep them to the end" - Psalm 119:32-33

PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

PR:  We thank You, Father, for setting us free from the power of sin, the deceptions of the evil one, and the fear of death.  We thank You that Your Son Jesus removes the darkness of pride, selfishness, jealousy, and bitterness.  We thank You for the fruits of Your Spirit so that we may enjoy hope, peace, and love.

MN:  Guide all the Bible teachers who will be leading their classes tonight.  Bless all the students that they might truly feed on Your Word and grow closer to You.

SG: Father, we confess that we are often inattentive to the leading of Your Spirit in our lives;  that we can be blind to needs of even those close to us, and often grumble about the service that we do render in Your name.  Help us to be greater servants; to be cheerful givers; to be willing workers in your kingdom.  Prevent us from falling in love with the pleasures and possessions of the world and neglecting our own spiritual growth or the opportunity to serve others.

DAY 3 (TUE., 10/18)

MEDITATION:  "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." - Psalm 19:14

PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

SG:  Father, we ask you today to help us better control our tongues.  Help us to resist the temptations of gossip, of grumbling, and of ugly words.  Make us more sensitive to the needs of others, that we might speak words which build up, and not tear down.   Give us more patience and discretion, that we might be quick to hear and slow to speak.

CF:   Father, as we consider our speech we recognize we are not always as gracious and patient with our loved ones as You have been with us.   Help us reflect the grace we have received from you in a relationship with a loved one today.   Give us a forgiving spirit, Lord, that we might enjoy a closer relationship with You.

MN:  Today we thank You for the Ladies' Bible class.  We ask that You continue to bless this good group and the work they do; we pray that the class will continue to grow, to serve, and to be a blessing to its members. Ask for a spirit of wisdom for Jane Reynolds as she leads the class in a study of the Patriarchs.

DAY 2 (MON., 10/17)

MEDITATION:   "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him" - Psalm 37:7;    "Be still and know I am God" - Psalm 46:10;    "I have stilled and quieted my soul" - Psalm 131:2

PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

CF:   Father, we confess that we often allow ourselves to be so preoccupied with possessions that we neglect our own spiritual development;   that we become so distracted by our technological toys and tools that we forget our daily dependence on you;   that we become so wrapped up in entertainment and pleasure that we fail to develop our relationship with you.

SG:  Lord, help us to slow down;   to seek a quiet place where we might meet with you;   to interrupt the frantic pace of our lives to be still long enough for meditation upon your Word.  Quiet our anxious souls, and give us peace and a sense of your presence.

MN:  Father, bless those who support the work of our ministry staff.  Be with Gail Albritton and Joan Holmes as they serve in the office, and Karen Langston and Allen White as they maintain our facilities and our grounds.  We thank You for their cheerful service.  Bless them as they represent our church family to all with whom they come in contact.

PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), CF (Confession), SG (Spiritual Growth), MN (Ministry Needs)

SG:  Father, we ask that over the next 40 days we will be able to surrender ourselves more completely to you through this prayer campaign.  Give us a hunger for your presence and power in our life;   grant us an appetite for your Word;  awaken a thirst in our heart for your Spirit.   Lord, purge us from pride, and give us victory over sin in our lives, that we might draw closer to you.

SG:   In return, Father, we ask that you draw even closer to us, as we draw near to You;  we ask that through your Spirit you will grant us a deeper sense of Your presence in our lives in the days ahead.   Help our souls become strong as we focus on You.

MN:  Bless the ministry of our Growth Groups today as we discuss Your plan for our marriages.  Lord, we ask your blessing on every couple and every family in this church, and we pray that these 40 Days will strengthen our relationships.

College Avenue 40 Days of Prayer 2011

In keeping with our goal of truly being a church "of Christ," our shepherds have called us to follow the example of Jesus by spending 40 days in concentrated, coordinated, congregational prayer.  This year's prayer campaign will begin Sunday, October 16, 2011.

If you are willing to be a part of this spiritual discipline, please use each day's prayer guide to pray for at least five minutes a day for 40 days, and to pray for the specific needs identified by the overseers of our church family. The following prayer items for this week are labeled either PR (Praise), IN (Intercession), SG (Spiritual Growth), or MN (Ministry Needs).

The theme of our 11th annual prayer campaign is "Drawing Near To God."   Our daily meditations and prayers are designed to help us grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with our Father as we claim the promise of James 4:8 "Come near to God and he will come near to you."
